Stopping distances is a favourite part of the theory test, but they are not easy to remember. That's if you don't know a special trick... which we will reveal here.
It takes a bit of math, but bear with us. All you have to do is multiply the speed by intervals of 0.5, starting with 2. This gives you the stopping distance in feet, which is acceptable for the theory test. For example…
20mph x 2 = 40 feet
40mph x 3 = 120 feet
30mph x 2.5 = 75 feet
You cannot book your practical driving test until you have passed your theory test, so it is very important to make sure you are knowledgeable and prepared before you take your theory exam.
The accelerator, which is also known as the gas pedal, controls the power of the engine and is operated with your right foot. It is light and sensitive, so you only need to apply a small amount of pressure.
The foot-brake is the primary brake used to slow and stop the car. It operates on all four wheels by pivoting your right foot. Use it progressively and in conjunction with your mirrors.
The clutch is a device that breaks the link between the engine and the gearbox. It is operated with the left foot
On your driving test, you are asked a question that requires you to explain how you would perform a particular task, and a question that requires you to actually perform the task, where you would actually have to demonstrate how you would perform a safety task while driving on your test.
